Treats for Toys: A Galactic Holiday Baking Idea + Help Give a Child a Toy! #TreatsForToys

Treats for Toys- Galactic Holiday Baking Idea!

You all know that I am a huge fan of Kellogg’s and the Salvation Army and their partnership with Treats for Toys! They believe that every child deserves to have a toy this holiday season and are inviting one and all to create a toy-shaped treat or creation and submit it to their gallery or share it online! Once you do, they will donate $20 that will go towards providing a child in need with a toy for the holidays.

You may have caught my post last week and saw our little train that brought back so many memories of my childhood. For our second treat, we decided to spend a day in the kitchen together and create something really fun. The girls are obsessed with everything Star Wars and they are gaga over their  BB-8 droid. They thought it would be fitting to re-create BB-8 to add to the Treats for Toys gallery!

How to Make a Droid!

Rice Krispies treats make molding just about anything a breeze. Not only is it delicious but, malleable. Making super-galactic treats with the kids is always fun because who doesn’t like to play with their treats before they eat them?

It’s quite simple, all you need to do is make the basic Rice Krispies Treat recipe and make sure your hands are moistened with water. Roll up one large ball and one half a ball, attach with frosting. Then, add BB-8’s cute little eyes and antennas. Once you do that, you have yourself a droid!

All you have to do is add the details, as little or as intricate as you’d like. We used frosting and licorice lace and jelly beans! This is where you can get as creative as you want! After they have a little fun with them, they can enjoy the treat!

It’s Easy to Give Back!

If you are going to be doing holiday baking anyway, make sure you pick up some ingredients to make Rice Krispies treats. It’s a great activity for the kids to do while you get into making your more sophisticated baked goods. It keeps them busy and it takes seconds to snap a picture, share it on social using #TreatsForToys or upload the picture to their site. Seconds for an amazing surprise for a child that is in need!

How to Share Your Treat:

1) First, choose your favourite variety of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal to use as the base and add some snap, crackle and pop to your creation. For a limited time, Holiday Rice Krispies cereal adds a burst of festive colour to your toy-shaped treat; Rice Krispies Original cereal is the classic choice for traditionalists; Rice Krispies with Vanilla Flavour adds a hint of sweetness to the original wholesomeness of rice.

Rice Krispies Multi-Grain Shapes boosts the fun factor with whole grain, funky shapes and no artificial flavours or colours; and Rice Krispies Brown Rice Gluten-Free cereal is made with whole grain brown rice.

2) Create your toy-shaped treat using one of five Kellogg’s Rice Krispies recipes available on treatsfortoys.ca or design your own!

3) Take a picture of your treat and upload the photo to treatsfortoys.ca. You can also share your work of art on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using #TreatsforToys.

4) For every photo received on the website before December 21, 2016, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies will donate $20 to The Salvation Army to buy a real toy for a child.
